The sites in detail
1. 1JobBoard
Best for: NGO and social impact roles across India, with remote and global roles included. A free, AI-enabled job board built only for the nonprofit sector. Job seekers get alerts matched to their profile and a dashboard to track applications; most listings show the salary band.
Weaker at: volume compared with LinkedIn or Naukri, since every role is a social sector role.

2. DevNetJobsIndia
Best for: development sector roles, including UN agencies and CSR teams. Running since 1998, it is one of India's longest-standing development job networks, with a weekly newsletter read across the sector. Strong for health, environment, rural development and rights roles.
Weaker at: search and filtering feel dated next to newer boards.
3. One Purpos (formerly NGOBox)
Best for: jobs plus fellowships, grants, RFPs and EOIs in one place. NGOBox renamed itself One Purpos in 2026; it is the same team and platform. Useful if you are open to consulting contracts and fellowships, not only full-time jobs. If you search "ngobox jobs", this is the site.
Weaker at: a wide mix of opportunity types means more scrolling to find full-time roles.
4. LinkedIn Jobs
Best for: senior roles and roles filled through introductions. Many NGO director and head roles are filled through LinkedIn before, or instead of, a job board. Follow the organisations you want to work for and the people who lead them.
Weaker at: it mixes NGO roles with corporate CSR and "social media" roles that only match on keywords.
5. JobShobNest
Best for: CSR, ESG and NGO roles, plus government postings and career guidance. A good add-on if you want to move between NGOs and corporate CSR or ESG teams.
6. Internshala
Best for: internships and fresher roles. Widely used by students and recent graduates in India, including for NGO internships.
Weaker at: few roles above entry level in the social sector.
7. Naukri and Indeed
Best for: volume. Searching "NGO" returns thousands of results, but many are corporate roles that mention NGOs or CSR. Filter by organisation and read the employer name before applying.
8. Idealist and ImpactSource.ai
Best for: remote and international roles. Idealist has been running since 1995 and is one of the largest global nonprofit job directories. ImpactSource.ai focuses on remote social impact, climate and philanthropy roles. For humanitarian and UN roles, see ReliefWeb, Devex and UNjobnet in our global job boards guide.
Beyond job boards: where many NGO roles are actually shared
Many Indian NGOs, especially smaller ones, never post on a paid job board. Their roles travel through WhatsApp, LinkedIn posts and referrals. Add these three channels to your search.
1. Moderated WhatsApp channels and groups. Ground Zero's NGO jobs channel has about 30,000 followers and carries priority openings from every region and function. Separate groups exist by region (North, South, East, West, Global), by function (fundraising, MEL, communications, programme management) and for internships. See the full NGO jobs WhatsApp groups directory.
2. Organisation career pages and LinkedIn pages. List the 20 NGOs you most want to work for. Follow their LinkedIn pages and check their careers pages every two weeks. Roles at well-known NGOs often fill within weeks.
3. Talent pools at sector search firms. Senior roles are often filled by search firms before they are advertised. Joining a talent pool means you can be considered for roles that never reach a job board. Join Ground Zero's talent pool.
How to spot a fake NGO job post
Fake "NGO job" posts are common, especially in unmoderated WhatsApp groups that promise hundreds of links. Walk away if a post:
- asks you to pay for registration, an interview, training or a "security deposit";
- does not name a real organisation, or the organisation has no website or registration details you can check;
- uses a personal Gmail or WhatsApp number as the only contact for a senior role;
- promises a salary far above the market for the role (see NGO salaries in India 2026 for real ranges);
- pushes you to decide within hours.
Legitimate NGOs and recruiters never charge candidates. Ground Zero never asks job seekers for money at any stage (caution notice).
How to use these sites, by career stage
Students and freshers (0 to 2 years). Use Internshala and 1JobBoard for internships and associate roles, and join the internships WhatsApp group. Apply to fellowships listed on One Purpos; a one or two year fellowship is one of the most common entry routes into Indian NGOs. Expect entry salaries of about ₹2.8 to ₹5.5 lakh a year depending on the NGO's size and function (NGO salaries 2026).
Mid-career (3 to 10 years). Set alerts on 1JobBoard and DevNetJobsIndia for your function, not just "NGO". Searching "MEL manager" or "CSR partnerships" gives far better results than "NGO jobs". Mid-sized NGOs (₹10 to 30 crore budgets) tend to pay managers best.
Senior and leadership (10+ years). Most of these roles are filled through networks and search firms. Keep your LinkedIn profile current with numbers (team size, budget managed, funds raised), and join one or two search firms' talent pools.
Moving from corporate to NGO. Start with CSR and foundation roles on JobShobNest and LinkedIn, where corporate experience transfers directly, then move into an NGO once you have sector experience.
A simple weekly routine
- Two sector boards with function-specific alerts (for example, 1JobBoard and DevNetJobsIndia)
- LinkedIn: follow 20 target organisations and check posts twice a week
- One moderated WhatsApp channel for alerts
- Apply within 3 days of a post; good NGO roles often close early
Frequently asked questions
Which is the best website for NGO jobs in India? For most roles, 1JobBoard and DevNetJobsIndia, used together with LinkedIn. For CSR roles add JobShobNest; for fellowships and grants add One Purpos (formerly NGOBox); for internships add Internshala.
Is NGOBox still running? Yes. NGOBox renamed itself One Purpos in 2026. It is the same team and platform, with jobs, fellowships, RFPs and EOIs.
Are NGO job websites free? Yes, all the sites in this guide are free for job seekers. Some charge employers to post roles. A site or recruiter that asks job seekers for money is a red flag.
Where can I find CSR jobs in India? JobShobNest and LinkedIn are the strongest for company CSR and ESG roles; 1JobBoard and DevNetJobsIndia list CSR roles at foundations and NGOs that run CSR-funded programmes.
How do I find remote NGO jobs? Search remote roles on 1JobBoard for India-based organisations, and Idealist or ImpactSource.ai for international remote roles.
Are NGO WhatsApp job groups safe? Moderated groups that name the organisation, role and location in every post are safe to use. Avoid groups that share hundreds of links or ask for payment.
How much do NGO jobs pay in India? It depends on the NGO's budget more than the job title. In a ₹5 to 10 crore NGO, median pay is about ₹11.8 lakh for a tenured manager and ₹27 lakh for a CEO (Raahi 2026, via Ground Zero's NGO salaries report).
